Beautiful weather greeted fans and competitors at Riverhead
Raceway for their second and final practice before opening
night. Many cars were on hand to make final adjustments or, for
some of the new drivers, additional seat time in preparation for
the 2009 season opener next Saturday, May 2.
The Modifieds had six cars out for practice. Among those
drivers were Mike Andrews Jr., Dave Brigati, Chuck Steuer, and
the new #51 of Justin Bonsignore. Newcomer Amber Fortin was out
in her Modified for her second week of practice, this time
circling the track being accompanied by her father, two-time
Riverhead Raceway champion John Fortin.
The Late Models had four cars: Mike Bologna, Chris LaSpisa,
Kevin Metzger, and Doug Renalds.
The Chargers had another great field of cars out for
practice, with 14 cars on hand to take laps. Entries included
those of Tom Anderson, Kory Comiskey, Erin Dumicich, Frank
Dumicich Jr., Chris Frabizio, Garret Frabizio, Jay Henschel,
Jeremy McDermott, Chris McGuire, Daryn Miller, Alan Reeves,
Frank Scimeca Jr., Timmy Solomito, and Wes Zaleski. With that
many Chargers on hand for practice, it looks like it’s going to
be a great season for this division.
The Blunderbusts had more top racers come out for laps this
week. Defending champion Scott Maliszewski came to practice as
did Rob Bader, Randy Johnson, Eddie Mistretta, Timmy Mulqueen,
Tom Pickerell, Joe Pingitore, Kevin Rommeney, Ray Shannon, Terry
Stiles, and Tommy Walkowiak.
The Figure 8’s had four cars on hand, with two rookies –
Kenny Hyde Jr. and Johnny Vullo – and veterans Arne Pederson and
Mike Rommeney.
The Super Pro Trucks had seven trucks taking laps, among them
Frank Dumicich, Rob McCormick, Greg Podlaski, Bryan Quilliam,
Roger Turbush, and Anthony Vecchio.
The Legends had another strong car count, with 18 cars taking
laps. Among them John Beatty, John Brand, Anthony Cacioppo,
Gregory DiCanio, Paul Dodorico, Silas Hiscock Jr., Bryan
Johnson, Mike Malone, Vinny Malone, Glenn Maningo, Tony Naglieri,
James Pape Jr., Tom Rogers Jr., Joe Sedotto, Timmy Solomito, and
John Visconti,. It looks to be another strong field of cars for
the Legends in 2009.
The Enduros had a good number of cars on hand to practice
before their opener next Sunday, May 3. The Grand Enduros were
15 cars strong, the 4/6-cylinder trucks had eight trucks taking
laps, and about 14 cars each for the eight- and four cylinder
cars.
