A very special night of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
action will unfold at Barbara and Jim Cromarty's Riverhead
Raceway June 20th as the 58-year historic facility will host the
annual Whelen Night along with the Ernie Maynor Memorial for the
Figure Eight stars. A Mini-School Bus Figure Eight race and a
good old-fashioned 8-Cylinder Demolition Derby will join the
NASCAR Program.
Ever since stepping-up as the title sponsor of the NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series, the Connecticut based safety light
manufacturer has been the driving force in NASCAR Home Track
racing. The Whelen safety lights and related equipment have a
strong presence at Riverhead Raceway with the Whelen safety
light dotted around the quarter mile oval as well as outfitted
on the Brigandi Brothers Automotive Fire and Safety truck.
Barrasso & Sons Mason Supplies of Islip Terrace once again will
serve as the title sponsor for the annual Ernie Maynor Memorial
Figure Eight 20-lap main event, with Ernie's son Roger the
defending race winner of the event. Roger, who as of press time
owns 95 career wins at Riverhead hopes to continue his march
towards 100 victories in his father's race. Among those hoping
to slow Maynor and his drive for 100 are Tom Kraft, Ralph Tasso,
Mike Mujsce, Ken Hyde Sr. and the Pedersen Brothers, Arne and
Scott.
The NASCAR Modifieds, Chargers and a 30-lap double point
Blunderbust feature will complete the stock car portion of the
show. The Blunderbusts will utilize time trials to qualify for
their extra distance event.
The second Mini-School Bus Figure Eight race of the 2009
campaign will unfold and if it is anything like the first on May
23rd there will be plenty of hair-raising near misses at the
intersection. Just like the good old days, the heavyweights will
mix it up in a program concluding 8-Cylinder Demolition Derby
bringing the night to a car-destroying, bone jarring conclusion.
Tim trials for the Blunderbusts will start qualifying off at
4:30 pm and feature event racing is set for 6:00 pm. For further
