Chris Chirico, the 2001 Blunderbust champion at Riverhead
Raceway, has not raced competitively since January of 2005. That
is about to change, however, as the veteran competitor has
announced his plans to return to the sport.
Chirico recently acquired a Street Stock, which he is currently
in the process of prepping for competition at Bethel Motor
Speedway. Preliminary plans call for Chirico to take to the
track in late June or early July.
“I’m excited about getting back behind the wheel,” Chirico said.
“It’s been a while since I’ve been behind the wheel, but I’m
confident that I can be competitive coming back into it.”
If Chirico’s past record is any indication, he may very well be
a force to reckon with at Bethel Motor Speedway. Chirico is tied
for 12th on Riverhead’s Blunderbust all-time win list, with
eight wins in five seasons. His last win came in May of 2002.
Chirico finished in the top five in season standings three
times, and in the top ten seven times. His last full year of
competition was 2003, when he finished second in points. He
finished that season with four top fives and 11 top tens in 14
starts. Chirico also has one enduro victory to his credit.
Chirico’s entry into the Street Stock division will bear his
familiar #87, the same number he ran when he captured the title
at Riverhead..
