Riverhead Raceway Loses
Whelen Night To Rain
by Bob Finan
With an ominous forecast for Saturday afternoon and evening
Riverhead Raceway promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty made a
breakfast time decision to postpone the Whelen night activities
at Riverhead Raceway. The call turned out to be a wise one as
heavy rain pelted Long Island later in the day.
The rainout also affected the annual Barrasso & Sons Mason
Supplies Ernie Maynor Memorial for the Figure Eights, as well
the 30-lap Blunderbust double point race featuring time trial
qualifying. Monday morning Barbara and Jim announced the Ernie
Maynor Memorial would now be contested Saturday July 11th in a
25-lap, double point race that was originally on the schedule
for that night.
The 30-lap Blunderbusts race, complete with double points and
time trials will indeed be run this Saturday June 27th. The
8-Cylinder Demolition Derby also set for this past Saturday June
20th will also move to this Saturday June 27th. With the added
events to this week's program, the Car Rollover Contest has been
postponed with no make-up date announced as of press time.
This Saturday June 27th will feature a Full Size School Bus
Figure Eight Race joining the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
that features the NASCAR Modifieds, Chargers, 30-lap
Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks, 4-Cylinder Enduro, an 8-Cylinder
Demolition Derby and a Drifting Demonstration.
Qualifying will start at 4:30 pm with Blunderbusts time trials
with feature event racing set for 5:30 pm. For additional
