You and Your Dog Can “Get Your Motor Runnin”
At the Checkered Flag Dog Walk Hosted by
North Shore Animal League America and the NASCAR Foundation

Dogs and their owners can look forward to a unique experience on Saturday, August 29th when Riverhead Raceway opens its legendary quarter-mile track for the First Annual Checkered Flag Dog Walk. Participants in the fundraising event can venture onto the NASCAR-sanctioned track and take three laps around the raceway to help support the dogs, cats, puppies and kittens of the Animal League. The walk, which will be marked by green, white and checkered flags, is a partnership venture of the NASCAR Foundation and North Shore Animal League America . A portion of the proceeds will help support the Animal League sustain its mission to rescue, nurture and adopt approximately 20,000 orphaned animals into permanent, loving homes each year.

In addition, an Animal League Mobile Adoption Unit will be on the premises with animals available for adoption.

Dog owners planning to attend are asked to make sure that their dog is:
Dog and family friendly,
Leashed at all times in and around Riverhead Raceway,
Healthy and fully vaccinated, including rabies vaccination.

Registration begins 8:00 AM at the raceway, 1785 Old Country Road (Route 58), Riverhead. Opening ceremonies will take place at 9:45 AM, with the walk beginning at 10:00 AM. Ticket holders and their dogs will be allowed to walk three laps. Pre-registered tickets for one walker and one dog are $30 and $35 on the day of the event. Each additional dog is $5 and children under 14 years are free. All participating dogs will receive a commemorative checkered flag bandana.

About Riverhead Raceway

Riverhead Raceway is one of the oldest stock car race tracks in the country, having been built in 1949. It is a one-quarter mile asphalt, high-banked oval which includes a Figure 8 course. Riverhead Raceway is part of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series circuit and has been part of NASCAR for most of its existence. It is the only NASCAR stock car track in the New York metropolitan area. It has 5 to six racing divisions every Saturday night with an average car count of 150 cars in the pits.
