Legends drivers at Riverhead Raceway have gotten a boost in
recent weeks, as the division was granted a 20-lap time trial
event scheduled for September 12th. Lap sponsorships are in the
process of being sold, and it was announced today that NELMA
joined the ranks of those giving support. The driver setting
fast time for the Riverhead race will receive a $75 bonus, as
well as a plaque, courtesy of NELMA. In addition, the race
winner will earn a guaranteed starting spot for this year’s
NELMA, which is slated for October 24 at Sundance Vacations
Speedway.
“The Legends drivers are some hardcore racers,” said NELMA
promoter J.A. Ackley. “These guys are as much throwbacks to
yesteryear drivers as their vintage-looking rides are. They love
to race, and race often and anywhere. We’re more than happy to
support racers like these guys.”
NELMA’s most recent involvement with the Legends division came
just weeks ago, when the organization posted a $100 bonus for
the B-Main winner of Bethel Motor Speedway’s prestigious
LegendStock 2009 event. The award was collected by Justin Grim.
The LegendStock winner, North Carolina’s Daniel Hemric, was
awarded a guaranteed provisional starting spot in the NELMA
event.
NELMA’s October 24th schedule at Sundance Vacations Speedway
includes both the Fifth Annual Late Model Challenge and the Pro
Truck Rumble events, in addition to the Second Annual Legends
Car Fall Classic. The racing card will be preceded by the
Hazleton Rat Rod Festival and Automotive Swap Meet. Complete
