RIVERHEAD RACEWAY AWASH,
MONSTER TRUCKS THIS WEEKEND
Remnants from tropical storm Danny forced Riverhead Raceway
promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty to rain-out last Saturday's
NASCAR Whelen All American Series program on Miller Lite night.
This weekend it's the annual Labor Day weekend appearance of the
popular Monster Trucks starring Big Foot.
With just a handful of race dates left in 2009 the washout this
past Saturday has forced the Cromarty's to juggle the schedule
for this coming Saturday might September 5th. The 50-lap, double
point NASCAR Modified event set for August 29th will be run this
Saturday and use the twin 25 format for the purpose of Whelen
All American Series points. The double track points and purse
money for the race that will still feature time trial qualifying
will be paid at the end of the 50-laps.
The Full Size School Bus Demolition Derby that was also
rained-out also moves to this Saturday September 5th, with the
Taxicab Demolition Derby being cancelled. Another casualty of
the wet weather was the scheduled 8-Cylinder Enduro that will
not be made-up. The 37 pre-registered drivers from August 29th
are automatically credited to race this Sunday afternoon.
This Saturday night September 5th Big Foot the most popular
Monster Truck in the United States will take on two other trucks
including Viper in free-style competition where these huge
machines crush a stack of cars until they are totally flattened
to the delight of the fans in the stands.
Joining the Monster Trucks on Saturday will be the 50-lap NASCAR
Modified feature event plus the Chargers, Blunderbusts, Super
Pro Trucks and a Full Size School Bus Demolition Derby. Time
trials for the NASCAR Modifieds are set for 5:15 pm followed
immediately by feature events.
Sunday afternoon September 6th at 12:30 pm will see the Grand
Enduros, 8-Cylinder, 6-Cylinder, 4-Cylinder and a 4/6-Cylinder
Truck Enduros joining Big Foot and the Monster Truck
spectacular. Sunday's show has a rain date of Labor Day Monday
at 12:30 pm.
