Riverhead's Barbara and
Jim Cromarty on NASCAR Hall of Fame Induction Committee
By Bob Finan
Riverhead Raceway owners and promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty
were proud to be asked to serve on the committee that will
select the inaugural NASCAR Hall of Fame induction class. The
committee will meet in Charlotte, NC at the Charlotte Convention
Center.
In a joint statement Barbara & Jim noted, "there are so many
legends to choose from. The list of NASCAR greats is
overwhelming, just to be included on that list is an honor".
The committee has been given a list of 25 potential members to
be among the first inductees into the Hall of Fame. During the
daylong meeting on October 14th, each committee member will be
asked to vote for five candidates, with the tally to be held the
day of the meeting. A
4:15 pm press conference that afternoon, which can be viewed on
SPEED, will then officially announce the 2009 NASCAR Hall of
Fame Induction Class.
The NASCAR Hall of Fame building is expected to be completed by
April of 2010, with the Induction Ceremony set for May of 2010.
The NASCAR Hall of Fame will be a wonderful addition to the
legend of NASCAR and will bring a great deal of pleasure to the
thousands of devoted race fans who will visit.
Barbara & Jim Cromarty have just completed their 32nd year of
promoting races at Riverhead Raceway, which they have owned
since the 1985 season. Prior to purchasing the Eastern Long
Island quarter mile the Cromarty's promoted NASCAR racing at the
Islip Speedway from 1977 until it closed in 1984.
