Rain Halts Action at Stafford Fall Final
NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice and
qualifying has been postponed until Sunday at the CARQUEST Fall
Final as rain washed out most activities at Stafford Motor
Speedway on Saturday.
After an extensive effort by speedway staff, the Whelen Modified
Tour was able to get on the track for 26 minutes of practice
Saturday, but persistent precipitation forced and end to the day
by mid-afternoon.
Of the 32 entries for Sunday’s 150-lap race, 28 were able to
record laps during the rain-shortened practice, and James Civali
was the fastest car at 18.627 seconds (96.634 mph). Eric Berndt,
the pole winner in the last Whelen Modified Tour event at
Stafford – was second fastest at 18.721 (96.149).
Rob Summers (18.745/96.026), Eric Goodale (18.814/95.673) and
Erick Rudolph (18.820/95.643) rounded out the five fastest cars
during the abbreviated practice.
Sunday’s CARQUEST Fall Final will feature an intense points
battle between the top four Whelen Modified Tour standings. With
just two races remaining in 2009, Ted Christopher leads Donny
Lia by one point with Ryan Preece 12 tallies out of first. Todd
Szegedy is in fourth, just 37 points behind Christopher.
Sunday’s revised schedule calls for the Whelen Modified Tour to
practice at 10 a.m. and qualify at 1:30 p.m. with the race set
for approximately 4 p.m.
