John Fortin & Timmy Solomito Sweep N.Y. State NASCAR Honors

John Fortin the 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Modified champion at Barbara & Jim Cromarty's Riverhead Raceway and impressive rookie talent Timmy Solomito have swept the New York State honors for the 2009 WAAS. Fortin who captured his 3rd Riverhead title has won the New York State championship, while "The Natural" Timmy Solomito is the 2009 Rookie of the Year presented by Jostens for New York State.

"We are very proud of John Fortin and Timmy Solomito on their accomplishments at Riverhead Raceway this past season" Barbara & Jim Cromarty stated and added, "we feel that with a veteran driver like Fortin winning the championship and a 17-year old freshman driver in Solomito winning the Rookie of the Year it just proves the diversity of the talent at Riverhead Raceway".

Indeed for John Fortin of Holtsville it was career year winning 7 main events in 17-starts (including two twin 25's victories) and boasting an average finish of 4.3 on his way to the title in the SGS Stone Works Chevrolet. John also kept his race team busy during the championship run fielding a second car for his teenage daughter Amber for her rookie season.

After taking the 2008 Legend Race championship as well the 2008 Rookie of the Year honors in the Charger division, Timmy Solomito of Islip turned heads with his freshman season in the Dave & Cindy Brigati owned WPW Growers Chevy scoring two wins and placing 5th in the NASCAR Modified standings at the quarter mile.

When the final New York State NASCAR WAAS standings were tabulated John Fortin led fellow Riverhead Raceway drivers Chuck Steuer, Dave Brigati and Bill Park who finished second through fourth. Spencer Speedway SST NASCAR Modified regular Amy Catalano completed the top five, with Solomito sixth in the state rankings.

Both John Fortin and Timmy Solomito will be at the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series banquet Friday November 13th at the Concord, N.C. Convention Center to receive their honors.

For the third time in four years, Phillip Morris of Ruckersville, N.C. won the National NASCAR WAAS championship in his Late Model racer and will headline the evening's banquet.

On Sunday afternoon November 15th John Fortin will be honored at the Riverhead Raceway champions' celebration for his 2009  championship, while Timmy Solomito will be named 2009 Rookie of the Year at
JC'S Restaurant & Pub in Manorville at 1:00 pm.
