Turkey Derby Set for
Thanksgiving Weekend - Nov. 27-28
Wall Stadium will continue a Thanksgiving
stock car racing tradition that stretches back 35 years on
November 27 and 28 when speedway promoter Jim Morton presents
“Turkey Derby XXXVI” at his third mile paved high banked oval
speedway. As has been the case since the outset, Turkey Derby
competition is always held during the daylight hours and is
presented on Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend.
Friday, November 27, will be a busy first day of Turkey Derby
with practice being offered for all eight divisions that will
see competition on the weekend. Late Model stock cars will
headline Friday’s racing activities as they compete in a 75-lap
feature event. The INEX Legend Cars and the Calabreeze Pools
Sportsman racers will each compete in a 25-lapper and the
Flanagan Retail Development Factory Stocks will wrap up main
event action on Turkey Derby Day 1 in a 20-lap feature. Friday
will also feature qualifying for all four divisions plus
qualifying for the Street Stocks and the Red Bank Sleep Shoppe
Modifieds.
Saturday, November 28, will feature double Modified stock car
action with 100-lap main events for both the tour type Modified
stock cars and the Red Bank Sleep Shoppe Modified stock cars. In
addition, the Street Stocks will compete in a 25-lap main event
while the A.T.Q.M.R.A. Three Quarter Midgets will wrap up their
season and crown a 2009 driving champion in a 20-lap feature
race. In addition to the main event action and practice for all
divisions, the tour type Modifieds and the T.Q. Midgets will
compete in qualifying events on Saturday.
Morton also announced that the track will be open for paid
practice sessions on Saturdays November 14 and 21. The paid
practice sessions, which are being offered in preparation for
the Turkey Derby, will begin at 11:00 a.m. and run until 4:00
p.m. both days.
Wall Stadium is located on Route 34 in Wall Township, N.J., just
one mile north of Garden State Parkway exit 98 and Interstate
