Riverhead Raceway
Announces Divisions For
14-Year Old NASCAR Learners Permit License
Barbara & Jim Cromarty announced today the
two divisions that are eligible for 14-year old drivers under
NASCAR Learners Permit License which was announced by NASCAR
late in the 2009 season. The 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American
Series at Riverhead Raceway will swing into action Saturday
evening May 1st at Riverhead Raceway.
The NASCAR Learners Permit License for 14-year old drivers can
be used in both the Blunderbust or Super Pro Truck classes at
Riverhead in 2010. The Blunderbust class is the division that
many drivers in the past have utilized to start in features. The
cars weigh 4,2000 pounds or better and are allowed the least
modifications in the area of performance. The Super Pro Truck
the short track version of the Camping World Truck Series of
NASCAR has a 9 to 1 compression engine rule that limits speed on
the quarter mile oval as compared to the other divisions.
In 2009 Chris Young became the first 15-year old driver to race
at Riverhead in the INEX Legend Race Car division and was later
joined by JD Abrahams and Jeffrey Goodale. Over the years INEX
has allowed 14-year old drivers to compete across the United
States and in 2010 14-year old drivers will now be allowed to
race a Legend Race Car at Riverhead.
During the recent NASCAR Whelen All-American Series banquet and
championship week in Concord, NC, it was announced that a driver
with a NASCAR Learners permit license will see that license
converted automatically into a NASCAR Charger license when he or
she turns 16-years old.
If NASCAR announces any changes to the NASCAR Learners Permit
License prior to the start of the 2010 Whelen All-American
Series, Riverhead Raceway will follow those amendments.
Joining the Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks and Legend Race Cars
on the May 1st opening night at Riverhead are the NASCAR
Modifieds, Late Models, Figure Eights and Chargers. For the
