Riverhead Enduro Champions To Be Honored December 5th

The Riverhead Raceway Enduro drivers and teams will gather for the 2nd annual awards banquet Saturday December 5th at JC'S Restaurant & Pub in Manorville. The gathering is once again being arranged by Elaine Vollmoeller, who once again also raised through 50/50 raffles the 2010 point fund for the Enduro racers.

Stepping into the spotlight, as 2009 Enduro champions are Ray Fitzgerald of Manorville who won 6 races in 8 starts to capture the Grand Enduro title. John Cozza of Medford topped the 4/6-Cylinder Truck Enduro championship on the strength of 5 wins in 7 starts.

For the second consecutive season Dege Russell of Rocky Point is the 8-Cylinder Enduro champion, while Gene Burbol of Brookhaven scored his first track title in the 6-Cylinder Enduro ranks. Both drivers were the models of consistency as neither driver won a race in 2009, but put together enough top five and ten finishes to score the championship.

Polar opposite to Russell and Burbol is the 2009 4-Cylinder champion Matt Brown of Ronkonkoma who won all seven races enroute to his first career championship. Fitzgerald and Burbol are also first time champions in their careers.

In 2008 the top five in each Enduro class took home a CARQUEST Auto Parts trophy for their accomplishments and with a rainout of the first scheduled Enduro card in '09 some extra CARQUEST victory lane trophies were available and that means the top six in points will take home some hardware December 5th.

Vollmoeller also announced that the 2009-point fund money would be distributed at the awards dinner to eligible drivers. Tickets for the December 5th gala are priced at $45 and can be obtained by mailing a check to ER Racing, 58 Topping Drive in Riverhead, N.Y. 11901.

The Enduro awards ceremony will run from 6:00 pm until 11:00 pm and for further details call Elaine Vollmoeller at 631-369-5461 or cell @ 631-664-3710. Elaine asks folks who plan on going to the dinner that they contact her as soon as possible as JC'S requires a head count in the days to come.
