Chris Young Winning in The Classroom

Chris Young has won twice in his first year of racing, scoring two INEX Legends car victories. In the classroom, however, the 15-year-old McGann-Mercy High Student has been winning for some time now.

Consider these recent accomplishments...

Young's latest report card showed a 96 average, good enough to make the Principle's List. He is taking advanced courses, so this accomplishment becomes more remarkable.

He recently attended the Suffolk County East End Leadership Summit, attending several seminars regarding topics such as teen life situations, internet safety, abusive relationships, and drug awareness.

In the Spring of 2010, he will attend the National Young Leaders Conference, a six day conference that provides students from around the country the opportunity to discuss current events and issues with top policy makers in Washington, D.C., analyze concepts and then put them immediately to work. This dynamic program features creative decision-making simulations that challenge young minds to solve problems and lead their peers through role-playing exercises in an energy-charged environment far from the traditional classroom experience.

Chris attended both the Junior National Young Leaders Conference and the Inauguration of President Barack Obama in 2008, and is very excited about the opportunities he has in front of him.

"I always enjoy learning about leadership and how our country works," Chris said with his trademark smile. "You meet a lot of other really smart kids at the conferences, and they keep us really busy with a full schedule every day. It always makes me proud to be chosen for such a tremendous opportunity and that's what keeps me working hard in school. I want to be the best I can be on and off the track."
