Glenn Dixon Wins a
Legends Car
Pure luck catapulted Long Islander Glenn
Dixon from being the holder of a 1-in-200 chance in a raffle
drawing to being the owner of the 2010 Legends car raffled off
by Bethel Motor Speedway this past weekend. His name was drawn
by Greg Moldt, a designer from Shangri-La II Speedway (NY), who
was recruited from a nearby booth at the Oakdale Mall Show in
Johnson City, NY, to draw the winning ticket at 3 p.m. on
Sunday, just minutes after the final ticket had been sold.
“I am totally in shock,” Dixon stated. “I purchased the ticket
because it was for a good cause, and I wanted to support both
Bethel and their Young Racers Program.”
All of the proceeds from the raffle are being allocated to the
BMS Young Racers Program, which focuses on helping young drivers
get involved in racing. The program was a success at Bethel in
2009, with an increased number of young drivers getting the
opportunity to take to the track with plenty of education and
support from more experienced drivers, as well as from the
speedway itself. The Young Racers Program also helps to make it
possible for the speedway to waive the entry fee for all
Bandolero drivers, which was done in 2009 and will continue in
2010.
Dixon has a long history of involvement in racing as a crew
member, with experience that includes both Legends and NASCAR
Modifieds. Among those he has helped is Michael Gervais Jr., who
won the Rookie of the Year title and the championship in the SK
Light Modified division at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT) in 2009.
Ironically, Gervais was the Pro division and overall winner of
the inaugural LegendStock event at Bethel in 2008. Dixon has
been a key member of John Beatty’s Legends team since the
driver’s rookie season in 2008.
