Free to the Public
Riverhead Practice Day Approaching Fast
Baseball enthusiasts always look forward to
pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training in February,
and if you're a stock car race fan on Long Island the music to
your ears is the sound of NASCAR stock cars whizzing around
Riverhead Raceway for the pre-season practice sessions in April
is Saturday afternoon April 17th and again Saturday afternoon
April 24th Barbara and Jim Cromarty will strike up the band with
the 2010 free to the public warm-up days.
The sights and sounds of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
will return starting at 12 noon both days with all seven
divisions testing and tuning their updated or in some cases
brand new equipment. The NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models, Figure
Eights, Chargers, Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks and Legend Race
Cars will turn laps both afternoons, where crews hope they have
hit the early season set-up. The NASCAR racers will have the
track until around 4:00 pm or so. After that the cars and stars
of the Riverhead Raceway Enduro Series take to the quarter mile
oval for practice April 17th and again on the 24th.
Once again the grandstand admission is free of charge for the
public and it's a great opportunity to bring the family out and
get a sneak peek at all the new paint jobs on these slick racing
machines. Fans are encouraged to bring out their cameras and get
some shots.
Pit gates will open at 9:00 am with safety technical inspection
to start soon thereafter. No car can go onto the track without
passing safety tech. The track will open once again at 12 noon
and remain that way until the early evening hours.
The 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will get underway
Saturday May 1st at 5:00 pm with all seven stock car divisions
in action. The opening weekend of the new season will continue
Sunday afternoon May 2nd at 12:30 pm with first Enduro program
of the year.
