Busy Opening
Weekend at Rivehead for May 1 & 2

Barbara & Jim Cromarty will go into the 2010 season full bore
opening weekend Saturday May 1st and Sunday May 2nd with 13
feature events scheduled to usher in the 61st year of racing at
the Route 58 quarter mile. Saturday's lid lifter will go green
with feature racing at 5:00pm, while Sunday afternoon will go
green at 12:30 pm.
Saturday evening May 1st will find seven divisions of the NASCAR
Whelen All-American Series hit the pavement for the new season
with the powerful NASCAR Modifieds headlining the program with a
35-lap main event. Joining them are the Late Models, Figure
Eights, Chargers, Super Pro Trucks and INEX Legend Race Cars,
with the Late Models going 25 laps in their feature while all
others to run 20-lap events.
The Blunderbusts get right down to business on the opening night
card as this very popular and competitive class will race in a
30-lap, double point feature utilizing times trial qualifying.
In 2009 and for many a season the class has provided some of the
tightest racing and closest finishes leaving the fans at the
edge of their seats.
Following the seven division opener on Saturday night, the cars
and stars of the Enduro ranks at Riverhead will get their 2010
campaign underway with a matinee show. The Grand Enduros,
4/6-Cylinder Trucks and 8, 6 and 4-Cylinder divisions will all
run feature events with a distance to be determined by the
amount of entries. The 8-Cylinder class as they have
traditionally done will run a second feature at the end of the
day for those who may have dropped out of the first feature
early, with competitors having to pay an additional entry fee.
