Doubleheader
Weekend on Tap at Riverhead for Memorial Day Weekend
Memorial Day weekend will indeed
be a busy one at historic Riverhead Raceway as promoters Barbara
& Jim Cromarty have scheduled two days of stock car racing
excitement. NASCAR Whelen All American Series action on
Saturday, may 29th, will be joined by a Full Size School Bus
Figure Eight race and the year's first Demolition Derby, a
4-Cylinder contest. New for 2010 are Amusement Rides which will
be available for children for both Saturday evening's race card
and Sunday afternoon's program of Enduro racing.
Saturday evening May 29th is also
the first program in 2010 that finds the starting time rolled
back to 6:00 pm for feature event racing. Set to do battle
during the NASCAR portion of the show are the mighty NASCAR
Modifieds who will go 35-laps for their feature event and be
joined by the Figure Eights, Chargers, Super Pro Trucks and
Legend Race Cars with all four divisions racing 20 laps.
Ever since the Full Size School
Buses have joined Riverhead Raceway they have become a very
popular attraction as the fans go wild watching the huge
machines try to navigate the 61-year old quarter mile.
Saturday's Full Size Race is the first of two planned in 2010
with the second set for June 26th.
Once done racing the buses,
Riverhead Raceway then will wreck them in two Demolition Derby
events on July 24th and August 21st.
The chase for the 2010 Demolition
Derby championship will start Saturday night with a 4-Cylinder
Demolition Derby with Jimmy White Jr. of Southampton the
defending champion. The 4-Cylinder cars take a licking and keep
on ticking to coin a familiar phrase. The action will be
guaranteed to be fast paced and hard hitting. Back to basic
rules for 2010 will be in effect for this and all such events
this year and competitors should review the rules on the track
web page at
www.riverheadraceway.com.
Once again thinking outside the
box and about the younger fans who visit Riverhead Raceway,
Barbara & Jim Cromarty have added Amusement Rides for the kids
which addition to Memorial Day weekend are also scheduled for
July 24th, August 21st and Labor Day weekend, September 4th &
5th, in conjunction with the annual Monster Truck appearance.
Sunday afternoon, May 30th, will
again find the cars and stars of Enduro racing flocking to
Riverhead Raceway for a 12:30 pm show. The Grand Enduro and
4&6-Cylinder Truck Enduro races will be joined by 8-Cylinder,
6-Cylinder and 4-Cylinder Enduro racing. In the event of rain
Sunday's program carries a Monday May 31st rain date.
For Memorial Day weekend 2010,
the unofficial start of summer and a great American holiday,
what better way to enjoy it than visiting Riverhead Raceway on
Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon or both!
