Wayne Anderson
Hospitalized After Riverhead's NASCAR Hall of Fame 100
Former five time Riverhead
Raceway NASCAR Modified champion Wayne Anderson 62, of Yaphank
was hospitalized Saturday night after completing the NASCAR Hall
of Fame 100 at the quarter mile oval finishing 12th in a 24-car
field.
After exiting his K-Mart Stores
#15 Wayne sat down in his enclosed trailer
where he later collapsed. The Trans Care Ambulance that serves
Riverhead
Raceway rushed to Wayne's pit stall and began treatment right
away including
the use of an on board AED machine. After coming to and being
stabilized
Anderson was then taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in
Riverhead. As Wayne was entering the ambulance he was alert and
talking with his wife Joette and crew members.
Sunday morning team members
reported that Wayne would be transferred to St.
Frances Hospital in Nassau for further testing and diagnosis and
they also
indicated the rugged driver wanted to leave the hospital
Saturday night but
was advised not to.
The evening got off to a great
start for the 1994 NASCAR Whelen Modified
Tour champion when he set fast time for the NASCAR Hall of Fame
100 with a
lap of 12.017 and later raced for the lead with Justin
Bonsignore and Rowan
Pennink.
Assisting in the pit area
treatment of Anderson were Ann Young, wife of
Chris Young, and Blunderbust driver Rob Bader, both on staff at
Brookhaven
Memorial Hospital in the Nursing Department.
Barbara & Jim Cromarty and all of
us at Riverhead Raceway are hoping for a
positive diagnosis and outcome for Wayne Anderson
