James Charrier
and Kevin Nowak Share Riverhead Raceway Enduro Honors Sunday
Sunday afternoon
Riverhead Raceway hosted an Enduro program to complete the
Memorial Day weekend doubleheader and in the 50-lap Grand Enduro
James Charrier of Shirley continued his perfect season with his
third win in as many races, while veteran Kevin Nowak of Medford
topped the 50-lap 4/6-Cylinder Truck Enduro for his first win of
the year.
Kevin McCarthy and David Antos led the early portion of the
Grand Enduro before Joe Parcelluzzi come along to take the top
spot on lap 7. James Charrier who started the race 7th worked
his way to second on lap 10 and after spending the next few laps
reeling in Parcelluzzi he would catch up to the leader. Once he
got to Parcelluzzi's rear bumper Charrier made his move for the
lead entering turn three on lap 20 with an inside pass to take
over the top spot. Jimmy Denis soon also worked his way by
Parcelluzzi for second on lap 25. Once out front there was not
stopping James Charrier as the 5-year veteran claimed his third
win in the month of May. Jimmy Denis of Middle Island was
runner-up in the Salon Nevaeh Chevy, with David Antos of
Lindenhurst completing the top three in his G&R Performance
Monte Carlo.
After Jimmy Badalato set the pace for the first four laps of the
4/6-Cylinder Truck Enduro, Kevin Nowak flexed his muscles early
taking the lead of the race with an inside pass exiting the
second corner. Once Nowak had his Racing Creation 4X4 in the
lead the "Traveling Man" would lead the remainder of the race to
take home the lion's share of the prize money. For the second
straight race Rob "The Racer" McCormick of Calverton was
runner-up in the Pete's Landscaping entry, with Robin
Vollmoeller Sr. of Riverhead third in the Solar Salon Tanning
machine.
Anthony Pizzo of Lake Ronkonkoma captured his second 8-Cylinder
Enduro victory of 2010 when he won the 60-lap race, the first of
two for the class on the afternoon. Pizzo in the A. Voight
Towing Chevy moved out front on lap 2 and led the rest of the
race. Bob Baker of Shirley made a late race charge at Pizzo but
came up short finishing second, with Jess Martines of Shirley
finishing third.
In the nightcap two-time defending 8-Cylinder Enduro champion
Dege Russell of Rocky Point made a bold move to take the lead of
the 50-lap race when the green flag waved and would lead all the
way in the Kelly Russell Realty Monte Carlo for his first win of
the season. Bob Baker was again runner-up, with Jess Martines
again third.
Former Charger driver Tom St. Clair of Commack won the 60-lap
6-Cylinder Enduro in his Spits Speed Shop racer. St. Clair
making his first start in the class worked his way by Gene
Burbol, the defending champion of the 6-Cylinder class late in
the race to post his first career victory in Enduro racing. Gene
Burbol of Medford was runner-up, while Mitchell Pattern of
Southold was third.
Sophomore driver Steve "The Pitbull" Trimboli of Freeport
notched his first career win in the 75-lap 4-Cylinder Enduro.
Trimboli was indeed like a pitbull when the green light came on
jumping out to the lead in his Mercedes Benz and never looking
back. Robert Endlekofer of Miller Place and Matt Wahl of Islip
Terrace followed Trimboli to the checker flag.
