Father's Day
Weekend Doubleheader Set for June 19 & 20
Another busy weekend of NASCAR
Whelen All-American Series and Enduro stock car racing is on tap
for Father's Day weekend at Barbara and Jim Cromarty's Riverhead
Raceway Saturday evening June 19th and Sunday afternoon June
20th, Father's Day. Saturday, which is Whelen Event Night, will
host four divisions of NASCAR stock car racing joined by a Mini
School Bus Figure Eight race and an 8-Cylinder demolition Derby,
while Sunday will feature a
full slate of Enduro action. Whelen Engineering supplies
valuable equipment
to police, firefighters EMS among others and is a major sponsor
of Riverhead
Raceway.
The NASCAR Modifieds will take
center stage Saturday as they run a 50-lap,
double point feature event with time trial qualifying, their
first of two
50-lap races in a three week span. The Cromarty Cup 50, their
third and
final double point race of 2010, is set for July 3rd. Also going
for double
points with time trial qualifying is the Blunderbust division
who will also
use time trials to determine the starting line up Saturday
night. Joining
them are the Chargers and INEX Legend Race Cars with both those
feature
events set for a 20-lap distance.
Once all the great stock car
racing is completed it will be time for some
wild family entertainment in the form of a Mini School Bus
Figure Eight
race, which comes just six days before the last day of school on
Long
Island. The Mini School Buses really get some speed up on the
Figure Eight
course and the intersection at the center of Riverhead Raceway
is the focus
of attention. Right after that thrilling contest will be the
first
8-Cylinder Demolition Derby which will once again be a bone
jarring, car
destroying affair featuring one hard hit after another. All
told, Whelen
Event Night promises to be exciting and fun for all.
On Father's Day, what better
treat for dear old dad than an afternoon of
great Enduro racing on the quarter mile oval. On the 12:30 pm
program is a
Grand Enduro, 4/6-Cylinder Truck Enduro with feature events for
the 8, 6 &
4-Cylinder machines to follow. Over the Memorial Day weekend the
Sunday
Enduro show ended at 4:00 pm, which is early enough to still get
the all the
fathers back home for a cookout or off to a local restaurant for
dinner this
Sunday June 20th, as the show should be completed right around
that time
once again.
Time trials on Saturday evening
for the NASCAR Modifieds and Blunderbusts
will go green at 5:00 pm, with feature event racing set for 6:00
pm.
Spectator gates will open at 3:00 pm, with pre-race practice to
start at the
same time. Sunday afternoon the spectator gates will swing open
at 12:00
noon and racing starts at 12:30 pm.
