Skid Plate Race
Added to July 3 Independence Day Spectacular
The already spectacular July 3rd
Independence Day program at Barbara & Jim
Cromarty's Riverhead Raceway just got even more entertaining as
it was
announced earlier in the week that a Skid Plate Race will be
added to the
show which includes fireworks and an 8-Cylinder Demolition
Derby. The NASCAR Modifieds will highlight the Whelen
All-American Series program as they compete in the annual
Cromarty Cup 50.
Two Skid Plate events have been
presented to date in 2010 with Shawn Wanat
and Brian Savoy taking the victories in this very unique form of
racing.
Teams must secure the rear wheels of a front wheel drive car
with aluminum
skid plates which means the driver can only rely on his front
wheels to get
him around the track with a shower of sparks trailing the car.
With aluminum
being used, absolutely no damage is done to the racing surface.
Bay Fireworks, a Long Island
based award winning pyrotechnic firm will again
thrill the crowd with a great display which will be set to
music. Every year
Bay has made the Independence Day display more and more
entertaining and
2010 will be no exception. The second bone jarring, car
destroying
Demolition Derby in just three weeks will conclude the July 3rd
program.
The NASCAR Modified teams will
compete in their third and final double
points race of 2010 vying for the prestigious Cromarty Cup in a
50-lap
contest with time trials qualifying. Joining them are the Late
Models,
Chargers and Blunderbusts with the Late Model race set for
25-laps, while
the other two features are set for 20-laps each. The 6-Cylinder
Enduro
drivers will display their talents in front of the Saturday
night crowd for
the second time in 2010.
Time trials for the NASCAR
Modifieds will go green at 5:15 pm and feature
event racing will start at 6:00 pm. For further information
