Fireworks on
Tap for Miller Lite Night Sat. July 3
It's going to be a spectacular
evening this coming Saturday at Barbara & Jim
Cromarty's Riverhead Raceway as the couple hosts the annual
Independence Day Spectacular. The evening, which is Miller Lite
Nite, will feature a
fantastic Fireworks display plus the Cromarty Cup 50 for the
high powered
NASCAR Modifieds. A car destroying 8-Cylinder Demolition Derby,
Skid Plate
Race and a 6-Cylinder Enduro will join three other NASCAR
divisions on the
card which is set to start at 6:00 pm. Also on tap for the
children will be
a free inflatable amusement ride which gave the kids so much
pleasure for
the Memorial Day weekend.
Miller Lite, a marketing partner
with Riverhead Raceway since 1985 through
their Long Island based distributor Boening Brothers, sponsors
the NASCAR
Modified and Demolition Derby classes along with the popular
Figure Eights
seasonally at the historic quarter mile oval. A handsome Miller
Lite trophy
and other goodies will await all feature event winners. Long
Island based
Bay Fireworks, an award winning pyrotechnic company, will
provide the
Fireworks display with a musical backdrop which year after year
is bigger
and better than ever.
The NASCAR Modifieds will contest
their third and final double point feature
event while racing for the prestigious Cromarty Cup in a 50-lap
race with
time trial qualifying. Tom Rogers Jr. won the most recent 50-lap
main event
on June 19th and as of press time was closing in on defending
NASCAR
Modified champion John Fortin who took a 20-point margin into
the June 26th
event. Both Rogers and Fortin will be among those chasing the
Cromarty Cup
and those all important double points. Chuck Steuer who has set
fast time
twice in 2010 and is a threat for the clean sweep are, Bill
Park, Eddie
Brunnhoelzl III, Dave Brigati, Howie Brode, Mike Andrews Jr.,
Chris Young,
John Beatty Jr., Amber Fortin, Al Ermmarino and Jerry Solomito
Jr.
Completing the NASCAR portion of
Miller Lite night are the Late Models,
Chargers and Blunderbusts with 20-lap features set for the
Chargers and
Blunderbusts while the Late Models go 25. A 6-Cylinder Enduro
will take
place with the two most recent winners in the class, Tom St.
Clair and Shawn
Wanat, among the top runners.
James Killkenny, aka "The Killa"
won the June 19th 8-Cylinder Demolition
Derby and is ranked among the favorites to do so this Saturday
as are Jason
Savoy, Michael Wahl, Richard and Andrew Fowler and Tim and Matt
Mulqueen.
A Skid Plate Race has also been
added to the already action packed program
with Shawn Wanat and Jason Savoy who won the first two such
races expected
to be among many in the field. For those who haven't yet seen a
Skid Plate
Race it is a combination of on-track "fireworks", demolition
derby and
drifting fun-filled event.
