Baldwin, Evans,
& Jarzombek 77 July 10 at Riverhead to Remember Three NASCAR
Modified Icons
Riverhead Raceway owners Barbara
& Jim Cromarty will again pay tribute to
three iconic individuals of NASCAR Modified racing Saturday
night July 10th
as they present the 5th annual Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek 77 on
Buzz Chew
Chevy-Cadillac night. Northeastern Office Equipment of
Farmingdale will
again serve as the title sponsor for the prestigious race that
was won in
2009 by the defending NASCAR Modified champion John Fortin of
Holtsville.
All three drivers who are being
commemorated perished doing what they loved
the most, driving their NASCAR Modifieds and their memory lives
on in this
annual race at Riverhead Raceway. "Charging" Charlie Jarzombek
remains the
all-time leading winner of Modified races at Riverhead with 63,
while Evans
was a nine-time NASCAR National Modified champion who always
enjoyed both
success and immense popularity when he visited Islip, Freeport
or Riverhead
Raceway. "Tiger" Tom Baldwin without doubt was the most colorful
of the
three drivers, outspoken and never afraid to speak his mind Tom
took over as
the leader of the Long Island gang after Jarzombek's passing.
Baldwin won 11
times at Riverhead, the last of which came on June 6th, 1992.
Aside from John Fortin other past
winners of the race include Chuck Steuer
(08); Howie Brode (07) and Wayne Anderson won the very first
edition back in
2006. Fortin, Steuer and Brode will all see action behind the
wheel for the
2010 running of the Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek 77 by
Northeastern Office
Equipment with all three very possibly becoming the first repeat
winner of
the race. As for Wayne Anderson, the former five time Riverhead
Raceway and
one time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour kingpin has been watching
as a car
owner since May 22nd, with Donny Lia and Jimmy "Showtime"
Blewett splitting
time in the famed #15. It's expected one of the two drivers
could wheel the
car in the 77.
Seeking their first win in the
Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek 77 are Tom Rogers
Jr, Bill Park, Timmy Solomito, Dave Brigati, Mike Andrews Jr.,
Justin
Bonsignore, Eddie Brunnhoelzl III and Chris Young. With the
NASCAR Whelen
Modified Tour set to visit Riverhead on July 31st and it being
on off week
on the circuit the 10th, it is hopes some WMT will visit
Riverhead as a
tune-up for the "Flash" Tour event.
Rounding out the busy program at
Riverhead on July 10th will be a 20-lap,
double point Figure Eight feature that will be joined by the
Blunderbusts,
Super Pro Trucks and Legend Race Cars with all three of those
features also
20-laps. Rounding out the night will be the Grand Enduro cars
and stars
running their second Saturday night race of 2010. Buzz Chew
Chevy-Cadillac
of Southampton who provides Riverhead Raceway with a Chevy
Malibu and Camaro pace car for 2010 will present all feature
event winners with a handsome
trophy. Buzz Chew has been a marketing partner at Riverhead
Raceway since
1985.
Time trials for the NASCAR
Modifieds will go green at 5:15 pm with feature
event racing set for 6:00 pm. The July 10th date also serves as
a rain date
for the July 3rd program and in the event that show is lost due
to weather,
the Fireworks display by Bay Fireworks and an 8-Cylinder
Demolition Derby
would be added to the program with an earlier start time in
effect if
needed.
