Abrahams Gets Back on Track

After the Opening Night feature event at Riverhead Raceway, young Legends talent JD Abrahams disappeared from competition. What some did not know was that 16-year-old Abrahams was involved in a serious bicycle accident that sidelined him from competition.

After eight weeks of recuperation, Abrahams finally received clearance last week to race again, and he made his return this past Saturday at Bethel Motor Speedway.

Abrahams was greeted with a full field of Legends cars that included Bayley Currey, who is currently ranked second in INEX national Pro division points.

Abrahams is no stranger to Bethel Motor Speedway, as he competed on several occasions in 2009. In October, he collected the most consistent finishes in the class to capture the “Bethel Motor Madness” weekend title.

Abrahams got right back into the mix of things the minute he slipped behind the wheel of the car. He grabbed a third place finish in his heat race, setting him up to start seventh in the feature.

At the drop of the green in the main event, Gregory Rittenhouse got out front. His time in the lead was short-lived, however, as Currey worked his way past on lap three. Chasing Currey was Mike Alcaro, the defending track champion. Todd McCollum, who won the Bethel Legends feature just one week prior, worked his way to third on lap seven, and McCollum had Abrahams in tow.

The top four would run the remainder of the race in that order, with Currey taking down the win and Abrahams scoring a top five finish in only his first race back.
