Chris Young
Races Up and Down East Coast this Summer
Chris Young continues to stay
busy during the 2010 season traveling up and down the East coast
to race in the INEX Legends division this summer. Young spent
last weekend at Shangri La II Motor Speedway (N.Y.), then drove
straight to North Carolina to compete in the Summer Shootout at
Charlotte Motor Speedway (N.C.).
Shangri La II Motor Speedway
Young continued his successful
season at Shangri La II Motor Speedway, when he finished second
during the Legends 15-lap feature on Sunday, July 4. Taking the
green flag from the fourth-place position, Young captured the
lead before the field even reached turn three. Young had a
slight advantage over the rest of the pack and was able to hold
on to the top spot. At the halfway mark, the second-place driver
was able to catch up to Young and pass him for the lead.
Young worked hard through the
final laps to get his position back but ended up second when the
checkered flag flew. Adding his second-place finish to his
already impressive season at Shangri La, Young currently ranks
second in the overall points standings.
Charlotte Motor Speedway
Carrying momentum off his
second-place finish at Shangri La, Young was ready to return to
Charlotte Motor Speedway for the fifth round of the Summer
Shootout. Despite the long haul from New York to North Carolina,
Young and his family wasted no time getting the car prepared for
Tuesday night's event. Young changed the rear end of his Legend
car in the parking lot of the N.C. hotel.
The 16-year-old qualified into
the Pull-A-Part Legend Car Semi-Pro A-feature, after finishing
sixth in his heat race. He lined up for the main event in the
12th position and had his work cut out for him. Young shuffled
back and forth through the field for the 20-lap race.
Managing to keep his car out of
trouble and in one piece in a race of bumping and rough driving,
Young took the checkered flag to finish eighth out of 22 cars.
Successful Bank Opening
Young participated in the
Bridgehampton National Bank opening on July 2, 2010 in Center
Moriches, N.Y. He was thrilled to be invited to go to the
appearance for his marketing partner.
"I had a great time at the bank
opening," said Young. "We had a lot of children come to hang out
for the afternoon, and I was able to sign hero cards for the
crowd."
