EEKR Provides
Action as Hot as the Summer Weather

Despite sweltering weather, EEKR go-karters
once again came out in large numbers last Sunday, July 11 to run
the high banks of Riverhead Raceway.
With the club finishing their fourth race
last weekend, Dean Grunert is turning heads in the Medium and
Medium Animal classes, two divisions in which he leads in
points. Grunert has run karts for many years, but has yet to
claim a championship. Grunert’s father, Vincent, said he
couldn’t be more proud of his son, as “he always gives 100% in
everything he does and it shows.”
Austin Haynes, 16, drove his first-ever
competitive kart race in the Beginner Champ Karts class last
weekend. Haynes is the cousin to EEKR regulars Amy and Jake
Scharfenberg. His aunt Jeanne said he’s always been coming to
the races to help out and it was finally his turn to get behind
the wheel. After his first race, Austin said he had a lot of fun
and can’t wait until next race.
C.J. Zukowski, who drives in the Junior II
class and is son of Riverhead Raceway sweeper guy, Charlie Z.,
will be on the sidelines next race as he broke his forearm
recently. We at LongIslandJam.com wish him a speedy recovery.
The next race is Sunday, August 1, with
gates opening at 7:30 a.m.
