Riverhead 200
Worth $5,000 to Winner, Ever Starter to Earn an Additional $300
Ardent NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour fan
Jim Schaeffer of Riverhead known as the LImodmaniac on the local
racing message boards, has done it again as he and a collective
group of fellow race fans and sponsors will add an
additional $10,500 in prize money to the July 31st Riverhead
200, a Flash
Tour race at Barbara & Jim Cromarty's Riverhead Raceway. The
winner of the
175-lap feature event of the program will now pocket a total of
$5,000. Ryan
Preece of Berlin, Ct. is the defending race winner.
In 2009 Jim Schaeffer, a Riverhead
elementary school teacher approached
Barbara & Jim Cromarty about adding some prize money to the
Riverhead 200.
After the Cromarty's agreed and with the blessing of Chad
Little, Race
Director of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR, the plan
was set
into motion. Just hours after Jim presented Ryan Preece the
bonus money for
his victory in the Boehler family Chevy, Schaeffer announced his
goal of
adding $10,000 to the race for 2010. Many thought he might have
bitten off
more than he could chew with the proclamation, but lo and behold
with an
army full of fellow backers and sponsors the goal of $10,500 has
been
reached.
Schaffer indicated that all 28 drivers
and owners that qualify for the
Riverhead 200 will earn $300 that he and his fellow sponsors
will present in
the pit area prior to the race. Additionally the winner of the
race will
earn an extra $2,100 from Schaeffer and his sponsors after
already receiving
the $300 to qualify. The posted awards for the race for the
winner sits at
$2,600 and with the $2,400 in bonus money the winning team
arrives at a
$5,000 payday.
Saturday night, July 17th, Schaeffer
made the trip to the Monadnock Speedway
to follow his beloved NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and to promote
the added
bonus money for the July 31st Riverhead 200. When not chasing
the WMT, Jim
can be found following the Race of Champions Modified series, or
the
Modified Racing Series up and down the eastern seaboard. If
there is a
bigger asphalt Modified fan in the country than Jim Schaeffer,
he or she has
yet to step forward.
