Chris Turbush & Ron
Langdon Share Riverhead Raceway Spotlight Saturday
Chris Turbush of Riverhead pocketed his
fourth Charger feature event win of 2010 Saturday night at
Riverhead Raceway and Ron Langdon of Wantagh won his first
Blunderbust event of the season. Both events took place prior to
the Riverhead 200 for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. These
victories came in 30-lap, double point contests.
Jeremy McDermott of Stroudsburg, Pa set
fast time prior in Charger time trials with a lap of 13.230
earning a $50 bonus from Brigandi Brothers Automotive, but in
the pre-race redraw Jeremy picked 6th, while Chris McGuire drew
the pole. At the drop of the green McGuire wasted no time
breaking out front with Chris Turbush giving chase over the
first 7 laps. On lap 8 things would change up front in a hurry
as McGuire and Turbush touched with the race leader nearly
spinning out. McGuire was able to save his car but not the race
lead as both Turbush and Jeremy McDermott slipped by. Once out
front the duo raced each other extremely hard with McDermott
working his way under Turbush for the lead in turn two on the
18th lap. However undaunted Turbush came right back with an
inside pass of his own 5 laps later racing into the first corner
to reclaim the top spot and with him came his father "Dynamite"
Dan Turbush to second. Unfortunately for McDermott he'd later
fall out of the race with a flat tire.
Once in the race lead Chris Turbush in
the East-West Marine Pontiac claimed his 23rd career victory,
with Dan Turbush of Riverhead runner-up in the Islandwide Taxi
entry. Chris McGuire of Shirley rallied for a solid third place
finish in his M3 Technologies Ford after losing several
positions in the lap 8 encounter and he remains the point leader
in the class by 6 over Kevin Orlando, 614 to 608.
Veteran driver Ron Langdon set a new
Riverhead Raceway Blunderbust track record with a lap of 14.987
in pre-race time trials earning the Brigandi Brothers fast time
award of $50 and in the redraw Ron also picked the pole and took
full advantage of the draw. When the race went green Langdon
moved out front with Bill Wegmann Sr. and Tommy Walkowiak in tow
for the first two circuits. Lap 3 saw Walkowiak and Terry Stiles
slip by Wegmann and soon the duo were battling for second while
Langdon pulled away to a nice lead. Stiles made his way by
Walkowiak for second on lap 7, but just three laps later Tommy
repaid the favor when he got back around Terry for second on lap
11 in the backstretch. All the while Ron Langdon had his racer
on cruise control and just when Walkowiak was making some
progress in trimming down Ron's lead, along came Scott
Maliszewski to third on lap 17 and he then applied the pressure
on Walkowiak for second taking the heat back off Langdon.
At the finish it was Ron Langdon in the
Langdon's Automotive & Auto Body Chevy scoring the win, his 6th
career trip to victory lane. Tommy Walkowiak of Ridge was
runner-up in the Blaze Fuel Oil Chevy, while Scott Maliszewski
of Deer Park claimed third in the Thomas J. Stock Attorney At
Law machine.
