It's All About Family
for the EEKR and the Grennans

East End Kart Racing (EEKR) returned to
the high banks of Riverhead Raceway for their fifth meet of
2010. In addition to a good field of karts, a great crowd also
was on hand to witness the day’s events. “It just goes to show
how good this club has become,” says EEKR President Dave Brigati.
“Not only is there an increase in the number of kart racers but
we've been able to put people in the stands on any given
Sunday.”
The EEKR feature many families, and one of those families is the
Grennan clan. Dan and Kim Grennan and their three children –
Owen, 10; Kendall, 8; and Chase, 3 – have racing in their blood.
Dan’s career started with mini modifieds, and then progressed to
Chargers and Super Pro Trucks. In the trucks, he won three
championships – 2002, 2003, and 2007 – with a No. 38 entry
fielded by Fred and Donna Lamac. His wife, Kim, also raced for a
period of time in full-size enduros as well as in pink No. 38
karts.
Today, their children continue the tradition. Owen has been
racing for nearly five decades and won his first championship
last year in the Junior Sportsman Champ I class. Kendall, the
Grennans’ only daughter, has been racing since she was five and
has a great time following in her brother’s and parents’
footsteps. The youngest, Chase, wants to chase after the dream
like his siblings, but unfortunately, at the age of 3, is
relegated to lending a helping hand and watching racing until
he’s old enough to compete. Chase recently received a bike from
his parents as a reward for being good. What would he like next?
“I want a go-kart,” he said without hestation.
The next EEKR event will be held Sunday, September 19, with
gates opening at 7:30 a.m., practice starting at 9 a.m. and then
races to follow. This is going to be a special weekend, with
some surprises slated for the event. Stay tuned to
