NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series Starts Stretch Run at Riverhead August 14
The stretch run for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
will start its
final month of competition Saturday evening August 14th at
Riverhead Raceway
and in several divisions that means a duel to the end for the
seasonal
championship. Five divisions of NASCAR racing are on tap along
with a Skid
Plate Race August 14th with action set for a 6:00 pm start time.
The NASCAR Modifieds will battle for 35-laps on the 14th in
what will be the
first of their final five races remaining on the 2010 calendar.
The 2010
title fight boiled down to three drivers as July turned to
August on Long
Island. Tom Rogers Jr., Chuck Steuer and defending champion John
Fortin are
the three main combatants. Eddie Brunnhoelzl III and Bill Park
are a distant
4th and 5th as of press time. The NASCAR Modifieds will run
their final
points event Sept. 11th; if that race is rained-out it will then
be added on
the program the following week. Over in the Late Model garage
area Kevin
Metzger seems set to repeat as LM champion and if drivers like
Roger Oxee,
Mike Bologna and Shawn Patrick are going to catch Kevin before
the September
18th 50-lap finale, they'll need to do some fast work starting
Saturday
evening.
Also set for action are the Blunderbusts where Tommy "The
Wildchild"
Walkowiak seems destined to repeat as champion and earn his 4th
career title
since 2006. Tom Pickerell was 68 points back of Walkowiak going
into action
Aug. 7th, while third place Bill Wegmann Sr. was 110 back. These
two drivers
have plenty of work to do before the final BB race on September
18th. In
Super Pro Truck action Roger Turbush is seeking his first career
championship, as is the driver chasing him in the rankings Frank
Dumicich
Jr. Hot on their heels are Lou Maestri, "Dangerous" Dave Koenig
and
defending champion Mike "The King of Queens" Albasini.
Making their first start since July 24th the INEX Legend Race
Car
championship fight will resume with Kevin Nowak leading the
standings
heading into August 14th. Trailing "The Traveling Man" are
defending
champion Tony Naglieri, "The Natural" Timmy Solomito, Tom
Sherman, Chris
Rogers and Johnny Gloor IV, with all five drivers in the mix for
the title.
The 2010 Legends season will conclude September 11th.
After all the stock car action is in the record books the
popular Skid Plate
Racers will compete in their first of two races in two weeks, as
they also
are set for the I Love America night program August 21st. In the
first
season of Skid Plate Racing such drivers as "Death Wish" Jason
Savoy, "The
Killa" James Kilkenny and soft spoken Shawn Wanat are among
those taking
feature event wins.
