School Bus Demolition
Derby Tops Miller Lite Night at Riverhead Saturday August 28
Another action packed evening of great NASCAR stock car
racing and family
entertainment will unfold this Saturday August 28th at Riverhead
Raceway
featuring a Full Size School Bus Demolition Derby on Miller Lite
night. Four
great divisions of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing will
precede the
School Bus Demolition Derby on a race card that starts at 6:00
pm.
Miller Lite, a seasonal marketing partner with the NASCAR
Modifieds since
1985 at the historic quarter mile oval, will present victory
lane trophies
to all four feature event winners including the 35-lap NASCAR
Modified
feature. The chase for the 2010 NASCAR Modified crown has
basically boiled
down to three drivers, Tom Rogers Jr., defending champion John
Fortin and
Chuck Steuer with just a handful of races remaining.
Joining the "Mod Squad" on Miller Lite night are the Late
Models, who will
go 50-laps with time trial qualifying for double points as Kevin
Metzger
guns for his second straight title over Roger Oxee and Mike
Bologna. Also in
action are the Chargers and Blunderbusts who will both compete
in 20-lap
feature events.
If you missed out on the first Full Size School Bus
Demolition Derby in July
you missed out one of the hardest hitting events in the 61-year
history of
Riverhead Raceway. The Rommeney brothers, Michael and Kevin were
the only
two left standing with "The Cheesebox" delivering a titanic
final hit on
Kevin, collapsing the roof on the latter's bus. There is nothing
quite like
watching these 13-ton machines do battle and joining the
Rommeney's will be
the likes of "Slim" Jim Donaldson, Tommy "The Wildchild"
Walkowiak and
Brandon "Hubcap" Hubbard among others.
Racing starts at 6:00 pm with spectator gates opening at 3:00
pm. For
