Miller Lite National
Demolition Derby Championship Paying $1,500-to-win
This coming Saturday night, September 18th, Riverhead Raceway
will host the
hardest hitting, car destroying Demolition Derby event of the
season when
the Miller Lite National Demolition Derby Championship hits the
historic
quarter mile oval. With a handsome $1,500 awaiting the winner at
the pay
window a virtual who's, who of Demolition Derbies will be on
hand. A full
slate of stock car racing action will also be presented with
many 2010
seasonal championships still on the line going into this week's
finale that
starts at 5:30 pm.
Prior to the start of the 2010, Riverhead Raceway introduced
a newer more
simplified set of rules in all Demolition Derby events and gone
are the days
of teams re-inforcing cars any way they can turning them into
virtual tanks
at the track. To date the new rules have proven to be a success
putting the
sport back in the hands of the backyard mechanic at a very
affordable cost.
These "back to basic" rules will apply for the Miller Lite
National Demolition Derby event this Saturday night and track
management wants to stress anyone can participate. "This is not
an invitation only or closed event" Bob Finan disclosed "anyone
can enter by going to our website
www.riverheadraceway.com where they can look over the new
simpler rules and download an entry blank" There are no
qualifying heats as in years past and everyone will go directly
to the $1,500 main event.
Heading into the Miller Lite National Demolition Derby
Championship Jason
"Deathwish Racing" Savoy of Lake Panamoka and James "The Killa"
Kilkenny of
Howard Beach are battling not just for the huge payday, but also
the 2010
Riverhead Raceway track title. Savoy leads Kilkenny by
20-points, 470 to 450
with events paying 100 points to the winner, 80 for Judge's
Choice, 60- for
Fan's Choice and 30 just to start. Joining the title fighting
duo will be
Michael "Cheesebox" Rommeney, George "911" Astacio, Brian Savoy,
Richard
Fowler Michael Wahl and Matt Mulqueen. Tom "The Madhatter"
Kilkenny is the
defending champion of the event and don't be surprised to see
him and other
tested tough veterans like Bobby "The Killer Bee' Benison and
Pete "Orange
Crush" Mikos on hand for the big loot.
The Late Models will go 50-laps and crown their 2010 champion
with Kevin
Metzger the defending kingpin leading Roger Oxee and Mike
Bologna as of
press time, while the Figure Eights will race 20-laps for double
points as
the Pedersen brothers Arne and Scott duel for the championship
with Mike
Mujsce. The Chargers and Blunderbusts will race 30-laps, while
the Super Pro
Trucks go 20-laps with championships still on the line for all
three
classes. It will be Golden Auto Body night for the Super Pro
Trucks in honor
of their season sponsor and the top three crew chiefs in the
race will
receive a special trophy in memory of the late Carl Rackoff and
Joe DeGangi,
two very special behind the scenes members of the division
before their
untimely passing. All feature events will use the track handicap
system for
their starting line-up in the main event.
All the racing will commence this Saturday at 5:30 pm with
spectator gates
opening at 3:00 pm. For further information please call
