No Double Point Races for Late Models and Figure 8s
Barbara & Jim Cromarty of Riverhead Raceway
announced today that neither the
Late Models nor Figure Eights would compete in any double point
races for
the 2011 season which opens on Saturday evening May 7th for its
62nd year of
stock car racing action with the NASCAR Whelen All-American
Series. An
energetic eight for one program will kick-off the 2011 campaign
starting at
5:00 pm.
At the recent Winter Meetings held in late
January the idea of dropping the
two scheduled double point races for the Late Models and Figure
Eights was
floated at their combined meeting and much to the surprise of
the NASCAR
Officials the popular sentiment was to do away with the format
for this
season. The Late Models have an 11-race slate for the upcoming
season, while
the Figure Eights have 10 events on tap and the thought was that
with the
limited schedule, the double point format could have too much of
an impact
on the overall championship.
Both the Late Models and Figure Eights are
looking forward to the May 7th
opening night at Riverhead Raceway where they'll be joined by
the NASCAR
Modifieds, Chargers, Blunderbusts, Super Pro Trucks, Legend Race
Cars and an 8-Cylinder Enduro, with all the racing starting at
5:00 pm.
