Riverhead Raceway to Put Brutal Winter in the Mirror With
April 23 & April 30 Practice Days
After a winter that surely tested the
mettle of Long Islanders on more than
one occasion the sweet sights and sounds of spring will return
at the
historic Riverhead Raceway Saturday afternoon April 23rd when
promoters
Barbara and Jim Cromarty will present the first of two
pre-season practice
days starting at 12 noon. As tradition dictates the general
admission gates
will swing open free of charge for the April 23rd warm-up day,
as well as
for the second test and tune session set for the very next week,
Saturday
April 30th.
All the divisions that participate in the
NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
will be involved in the two practice days as will the cars and
stars of the
Riverhead Raceway Enduro divisions. Pit gates will open at 9:00
am on both
April 23rd and 30th, with the safety technical inspection to
start at that
time as well. All race teams are reminded that no racecar will
hit the track
until they have passed safety tech on either the 23rd or 30th.
To that end
Co-Chief Stewards Mike Cappiello & Jim Maggio announced during
the
Competitors' Winter Meetings in January that Saturday April 16th
has been
set aside as the one and only pre-season safety technical
inspection day,
which will start at 9:00 am and last only as long as interest
dictates.
The NASCAR teams will start the pre-season
practice sessions at 12 noon both
days and run until late afternoon when the track will then be
turned over to
the Enduro competitors for their test and tune session.
The two warm-up days proceed the busiest
opening day in Long Island auto
racing history when on Saturday evening May 7th Barbara & Jim
Cromarty will
present an astounding eight for one program. On the opening
night menu are
the NASCAR Modifieds, Late Models, Figure Eights, Chargers,
Blunderbusts,
Super Pro Trucks, Legend Race Cars and an 8-Cylinder Enduro, the
Enduro
class that started it all back in May of 1986.
With all that racing set for opening night
2011 a special 5:00 pm start time
will be in effect. On week two, May 14th, the starting time will
fall back
to 5:30 and then beginning with the June 4th program a 6:00 pm
start time
will be the norm.
