Over 200 Laps of Feature Racing Possible For May 7 Opener
The old show business adage "give 'em what
they want" will surely apply at
the May 7th opening night NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
program at
Riverhead Raceway as promoters Barbara and Jim Cromarty present
an eight for one race card to ring in the new year of racing.
With over 200 laps of main
event racing possible a special 5:00 pm starting time will be in
effect.
When the first draft of the 2011 Riverhead
Raceway schedule was drawn up by
Barbara Cromarty there were fewer divisions set to see action,,
but in the
long haul Barbara and Jim realized that everyone wants to be
part of opening
night and indeed will be on perhaps the busiest race card in the
62-year
history of the track.
Once again the NASCAR Modifieds will be the premier division of
the NASCAR
Whelen All-American Series and the championship fight in the
class is
expected to be wide open with 2010 champion Tom Rogers Jr.
running for
Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors on the Whelen Modified Tour.
The chase to
the championship starts in the May 7th 35-lap contest.
Kevin Metzger looks for the three-peat in
the Late Models, while Scott
Pedersen will be the man to top in the Figure Eight ranks. Chris
Turbush
will be gunning for his fourth consecutive Charger title, while
Tommy
Walkowiak hopes to secure his fifth Blunderbust crown in six
years. Roger
Turbush looks to repeat in the Super Pro Trucks, while Kevin
Nowak will be
going for two in a row in the Legend Race Car ranks.
With over 200 laps of feature event racing
on the horizon opening night the
Long Island race fans will be rewarded for enduring a very
difficult off
season and winter with a large dose of their favorite remedy,
stock car
racing on the quarter mile oval right before their very eyes, so
close that
you know you are part of something very special. It's the racing
intimacy
that can only be felt at short track racing. Don't miss it.
