Salute to Law Enforcement Set for Riverhead Raceway June 4
Ever since they entered the ranks of
race track promoters back in the late 70's at Islip Speedway,
Barbara & Jim Cromarty have never forgotten the men and women of
law enforcement. With that in mind Saturday evening June 4th
will be the annual Salute to Law Enforcement program in
conjunction with the New York State Fraternal Order of Police. A
full card of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing will be
presented starting at 6:00 pm.
Nearly two dozen law enforcement
agencies from across Long Island and New York City were
represented last year on the New York State Fraternal Order of
Police night and its expected most will return for 2011. During
the evening an on track pace lap is staged for all the police
departments on hand as they all enter the track with their
Whelen Engineering lights ablaze.
On the race menu the Chargers will step
into the limelight with a 30-lap, double point feature event
with time trial qualifying. Chris Turbush of Riverhead is
gunning for his fourth straight championship in the class and
early on in 2011 has faced some tough challenges from the likes
of, Chris McGuire, Jeremy McDermott, CJ Lehmann, Frank Dumicich
Jr., Erin Dumicich, "Radiant" Ray Minieri and Daryn Miller.
Completing the stock car portion of the
show are the NASCAR Modifieds, Figure Eights, Legend Race Cars
and a 4-Cylinder Enduro. Time trials are set for 5:30 pm with
feature event racing set to go green at 6:00 pm.
