Fireworks and Cromarty Cup 50 Set for July 2
Once again Riverhead Raceway is set to
celebrate the Independence Day holiday in spectacular fashion
Saturday July 2nd as Barbara & Jim Cromarty will present the
Cromarty Cup 50 NASCAR Modified event along with a huge
Fireworks display and 4-Cylinder Demolition Derby on Miller Lite
night. Free Amusement Rides will be on hand for the children
once again in turns one and three to keep the little ones even
happier.
The Cromarty Cup 50 will be the second and final double point
race towards the 2011 NASCAR Modified championship at the
62-year old historic quarter mile and could go a long way in
deciding who will wear the crown. John Fortin, seeking his
fourth title at Riverhead entered late June as the points leader
and indeed is a former winner of the Cromarty Cup 50. The race
run in honor of Jim Cromarty's birthday, which will actually
fall on race day will be pivotal to drivers trying to make a run
at Fortin for the crown. Time trials will set the field for the
race.
Completing the Miller Lite night race night will be the "world
famous" Figure Eight stock cars, Chargers and Blunderbusts. Long
Island based award winning Bay Fireworks will be providing
another wonderful display set to music, a breathtaking
pyrotechnic display that one has to see to appreciate.
To complete the night with a bang, literally, a 4-Cylinder
Demolition Derby will be presented. Not only do the sub-compact
cars provide bone-jarring hits, but the smaller cars seem to
last much longer and allow competitors to slug it out in a fight
to the finish.
Time trials for the NASCAR Modified will start at 5:30 pm, with
feature racing set to go green at 6:00 pm. For additional
