LIKA Announces Aug. 13 Picnic Day Schedule
The next event for the Long Island
Karting Association (LIKA) is the annual picnic race on
Saturday, August 13 in the parking lot of Uniondale, New York's
Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Picnic activities will be
held during the day, with races at night. Practice begins at 5
p.m. This is a great opportunity to see what go-kart racing and
LIKA are all about. It's a great day for the entire family.
Picnic Day Schedule
10:00-11:30 a.m. - Kart “warm up” laps
12 noon-5:00 p.m. - Picnic activites
5:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. - Races
Pit passes will be $10 per person to
help cover the additional picnic costs. Competitor registration
fees will be same as any other race day. LIKA hopes you will
bring down as many people as possible to this fun family event.
Your $10 Pit Pass Includes:
Off-Track Activities
Affordable Party Rentals will once again be providing the
kid favorites. The kids loved the giant slide and cotton candy
machine, so LIKA is bringing them back this year. Affordable
Party Rentals will be on site from 1-5 p.m. with a giant slide,
cotton candy machine, and sno-cone machine.
Food
All you can eat, provided by the Sequa Deli of Massapequa,
from 1-5 p.m. Menu will consist of hamburgers, cheeseburgers,
hot dogs, chicken, potato salad, pasta salad, green salad, corn
on the cob, and watermelon. Drinks will be provided by LIKA,
while supplies last.
50/50 Raffle
LIKA will be selling 50/50 raffle tickets all day during the
event. When LIKA has done this at the annual awards banquet, it
is always a lot of fun to watch the pot grow.
On Track Activities
Test Drives
Grand Prix New York (GPNY) will be in attendance offering
test drives (4 laps for $20) from 1-4 p.m. So if you wanted to
try go-karting, this is a perfect opportunity to strap on a
helmet and race suit and go out on the track for a few laps. If
you are a more experienced racer and want to rent a kart for the
day, GPNY can accommodate you as well. If we get enough people
to sign up, we will have a special GPNY kart race later in the
day.
Bicycle Races
We will have bicycle races for both the young and
not-so-young members, so be sure to bring your bicycle with you
on Saturday.
Scooter Races
We all know how popular the Razor scooters are. Let’s see
how good the kids really are. We will conduct several races
during the day to see who is the fastest on the scooter.
Vintage Kart Race
Go-karting has been around for decades. Racing vintage go-karts
has grown in popularity over the past few years. This year we
will have our first annual vintage go-kart race. If you have or
know someone who has a vintage go-kart, tell them to bring it
down for a chance to race it.
Moms Kart Race
It would not be a picnic race without the annual moms go kart
race. Any mom who is brave enough to climb into a kart will have
the opportunity to see just how good of a driver they really
are. Kids, be sure to pressure your mom to sign up for the moms
kart race. If you don’t have a kart, see the guys from GPNY as
they will have karts available for this race.
Dads Kart Race
Most of us spend race day tuning our son’s or daughter’s kart to
help them go faster. We give advice and instruction on how to
handle the turns. Let’s see if we can “practice what we preach”
to our kids. Dads will have the opportunity to climb behind the
wheel and show their stuff. If you don’t have a kart, see the
guys from GPNY as they will have karts available for this race.
Club Night Time Race: 5-10 p.m.
This will be the first time we are holding a club race at night
at the Coliseum. Practice for the club race will start
approximately 5 p.m. or after the picnic activities. We are
bringing in additional “highway construction” type lighting to
brighten up the track. This should make for some really great
racing.
We will run:
-
Two rounds of Practice
-
Qualifying
-
One Heat Race
-
A Final Race
