Riverhead Raceway to Bring Curtain Down on 2011 Season with
Sept. 24 Enduro
The 2011 season, the 62nd in the rich
history of Riverhead Raceway will conclude Saturday evening
September 24th when promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty present a
full card of Enduro racing with a special twilight starting time
of 4:00 pm.
The Grand Enduro drivers are all revved
up for action headed-up by most recent winner James Charrier of
Shirley who will be out to win his second in a row of 2011 on
the 24th. Out to beat him to the gold will be Bob Engelfried,
Steve Mastro, Walter Stroud and David Antos who earlier in the
year won his first career feature event.
Can anyone stop the Ben Gregor express
in the 4/6-Cylinder Trucks as the Bridgehampton driver has been
on a real tear in 2011? Greg Harris, Robin Vollmoeller, Kevin
Orlando and Andy Owen all watched on Labor Day weekend as Gregor
drove away to victory but all four and then some have other
ideas for the finale.
Veteran 8-Cylinder Enduro wheelmen
Dominic Ranieri of E. Northport and Dege Russell of Rocky Point
shared the two Labor Day weekend feature events wins and while
the other one was winning the other placed second. 8-Cylinder
veterans Bob Haeger, Bob Baker, Anthony Pizzo and many, many
more will be out to win one of the two 8-Cylinder races set for
September 24th.
Like Ben Gregor in the trucks, Gene
Burbol of Brookhaven is un-stoppable in the 6-Cylinder Enduro
and the auto repair shop owner is looking to continue that
domination. Christian Conklin, Jeffrey Gregor and Robert
Endlekofer all hope to end the win streak of Burbol.
If the 4-Cylinder Enduro drivers wage a
fight for the race lead and win like they did on Labor Day
weekend then the fans will be in for another treat. Dennis
Nelson of Coram topped Lake Ronkonkoma's Anthony Pizzo but not
after the talented duo swapped the lead five times in the 50-lap
race. Many of the other drivers in the class, George Davis,
Robert Endlekofer and others are all hoping to have a fight for
the lead amongst themselves for the win.
The Saturday September 24th show finds
racing starting at 4:00 pm with the pits opening at 1:00 pm at
Riverhead Raceway. In the event of rain Saturday the show would
shift to Sunday September 25th and the usual Sunday time
schedule would be in effect. That means a pit opening of 10:00
am and racing at 12:30 if the rain date is used.
