LI Automotive Swap
Shop Returns to Riverhead Dec. 3
The Long Island Automotive Swap Shop is
returning to Riverhead Raceway
after a couple of years' absence. Bob Finan, the organizer, has
announced
that the swap shop will take place on Saturday December 3rd in
the pit
area of the Route 58 facility. The switch to a Saturday from
Sunday is a
new twist on the swap shop which originally was promoted by the
late Bob
O'Rourke at Islip Speedway.
The Long Island Automotive Swap Shop is a flea market type event
for race
cars and anything automotive with vendors paying a mere $20 per
spot and
general admission being just $5 with the event running from
10:00 am until
4:00 pm. Two factors came into play in making the move to
Saturday from
Sunday as Finan noticed many other tracks in the Northeast went
with a
Saturday as it allows the room for Sunday to come into play if a
rain date
if needed. "I'm hoping the move to Saturday will work for both
vendors and
buyers" Bob noted. Finan added "this swap shop is for racers not
just in
the Long Island stock car community but also for all our new
friends who
we made this spring and summer in the drag racing community with
the 100
Foot Drags".
Although stock cars and drag cars might not be the same, much of
the
equipment that the race teams utilize is. That includes enclosed
or open
trailers, generators, tool boxes and the like which all share a
common
need among racers. Plus the timing of the Long Island Automotive
Swap Shop
couldn't be better according to Finan, "the December 3rd date
obviously
comes just three weeks before Christmas so clean out your race
shop and
turn your unwanted inventory into cold hard cash, either for the
holiday
season or perhaps your 2012 racing budget" It also should be
noted that
those looking to enter either the NASCAR racing or Enduro racing
at
Riverhead in 2012 should without question make the trip to
Riverhead
December 3rd as many teams that have cars for sale would like to
do so
before the first of the year so they too can finalize their 2012
plans!
Vendors from the world of collectibles are also encouraged to
come out to
the swap shop at Riverhead Raceway as shoppers might just be in
the market
for a holiday gift for the race fan in their family and those
vendors can
set up as many tables in one pit stall as they like for the $20
vendors
fee.
So whether you're a stock car racer or drag racer get out into
your shop
and start cleaning out your unwanted equipment and head on out
to
Riverhead Raceway Saturday December 3rd at 10:00am. Vendor spots
will only
be sold that day of the swap shop and again in the event of rain
the event
will take place Sunday December 4th with the same time schedule
in effect.
