Legend Cars to Run
Under NASCAR Sanction at Riverhead
In what very well could be a first in
short track racing Riverhead Raceway
promoters Barbara & Jim Cromarty announced today the the popular
Legend
Race Car division that calls the quarter mile oval home on Long
Island
will run under a NASCAR sanction for the 2012 season. The first
historic
Legend Race Car feature under the NASCAR banner will unfold
Saturday
evening May 5th and be part of an eight feature event program.
In 2011 the Legend Race Cars led the way in car counts at
Riverhead and
heading into the fast approaching 2012 season the class seems
headed in
the same direction. With that in mind and watching out for the
drivers and
team members in the Legend ranks, Barbara & Jim Cromarty were
able to
secure a NASCAR sanction for the division. Since its inception
NASCAR,
through its licensing of short track drivers and crew members
has always
offered the most comprehensive insurance policy to its member's
and in
fact it's second to none in the world of motorsports.
Legend teams that plan on racing at Riverhead Raceway in 2012
all team
members, drivers, owners and crew members must purchase a NASCAR
License which can be done at NASCAR.com and clicking onto the
membership link. A NASCAR license for all Legend competitors and
team members will be the only license needed if you are planning
to drive solely at Riverhead and
will in fact be mandatory. The INEX rules that Riverhead Raceway
has
followed over the years will still be implemented to their
fullest in
2012. However, any Legend drivers competing for national Legend
points
will also have to purchase an INEX license.
Chris Young of Calverton won the 2011 Legend Race Car
championship at
Riverhead Raceway and will start his title defense Saturday May
5th under
the NASCAR banner.
