Riverhead Raceway To
Introduce Twin 30 Modified Features; Drops Double Point Events
for All Divisions
As Riverhead Raceway owners and
promoters Barbara and Jim Cromarty put the final touches on the
2012 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series schedule they have
already disclosed a new twist for the NASCAR Modified
competitors
going into the new season. Three Twin 30-lap main events will be
introduced at the quarter mile. Fans won't have to wait long to
see the
Twin 30 format as the first such event will be run opening night
Saturday
May 5th. All three of the Twin 30 NASCAR Modified events will
feature time
trial qualifying.
Over the first five weeks of the 2012 Riverhead Raceway schedule
the
NASCAR Modifieds of the Whelen All-American Series will actually
qualify
through time trials four of the five weeks and race in eight
points
paying feature events. After the May 5th opening night the Twin
30's for
the NASCAR Modifieds are right back on the May 12th program and
then the
very next week the NASCAR Hall of Fame 100 will be presented May
19th with
time trial qualifying. Memorial Day weekend May 26th will find a
regular
35-lap main event being run with the regular track handicapping
system in
place. The final Twin 30 program for the NASCAR Modifieds will
unfold on
Saturday June 2nd. Each 30-lap race on the night of the Twin
30's will pay
single NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points.
All told the NASCAR Modifieds will race in a scheduled 21 points
paying
main events going into the 2012 season. Aside from the three
Twin 30
features and the NASCAR Hall of Fame 100 the other two races
that will
utilize time trial qualifying are the Cromarty Cup 50 on
Saturday July 7th
and the Baldwin, Evans & Jarzombek Memorial 77 which is set for
July 21st.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will be in town for their annual
200-lap
Flash race on Saturday July 28th making it 22 races total for
the ground
pounding NASCAR Modifieds at the 63-year old quarter mile.
In 2011 both the Figure Eight and Late Model divisions ran the
entire
season without a double point paying race for the first time
that anyone
could remember and that format was at the request of the
competitors
themselves. Many teams and especially drivers feel way too much
pressure
going into those double point races which could make or break a
season.
With that in mind Barbara & Jim Cromarty, who have always been
competitor
friendly, have announced that for all divisions in 2012 there
will be NO
double point races.
Additionally they have also announced that the track and NASCAR
points for
all divisions will conclude on Saturday September 8th. The
annual National
Demolition Derby Championship show will return to its original
non-points
format. The 50-lap Late Model, 30-lap Charger, Blunderbust and
Super Pro
Truck features however will all revert back to qualifying
through time
trials for that twilight show.
The chase for the 2012 Riverhead Raceway NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series championships will start on Saturday evening
May 5th with a spectacular
eight feature event program featuring the all-new Twin 30's for
the NASCAR
Modifieds.
