HDRA 100-Foot Drags
Return to Riverhead With Six 2012 Events
After a seven year absence drag racing
returned to Long Island in the spring of 2011 when Riverhead
Raceway owners Barbara & Jim Cromarty debuted the 100 Foot Drags
through Jay Eastgate's Holeshot Drag Racing Association. The
events drew strong interest from the drag racers early in the
season and with that in mind the 2012 Riverhead Raceway schedule
will include six events for the 100 Foot Drags.
The season will get down to business on
Sunday afternoon April 29th and be followed by two dates on May
13th and 20th for two consecutive weeks of drag racing. After a
break during the months of June & July, the HDRA will return on
Sunday August 19th and then wrap up the season with two
September dates on the 16th and 30th.
The 100 Foot Drags utilize the paved
Figure Eight course at Riverhead with the course running from
the apron of turn three, towards the first turn. Racing is
broken up into two categories, 2.99 or quicker is considered
Class A, while Class B is for cars and trucks who time at 3.00
or slower. Class C is reserved for Motorcycles and Quads and the
like.
The 2011 opener for the HDRA drew some
81 cars and that number swelled to 112 for the second race of
the year. However as the season moved on the momentum was slowed
by two August rain-outs, one of which was Hurricane Irene.
Anticipation for the 2012 HDRA race season at Riverhead Raceway
is running high.
