RIVERHEAD CLARIFIES ENDURO TIRE RULES FOR 2000 SEASON-DROPS SMASH TO PASS RACES

(Riverhead, NY)    The first official race meet of 2000 at Barbara and Jim Cromarty's Riverhead Raceway will unfold on Sunday afternoon April 16th as the Route 58 facility will play host to the first Enduro race card of the new year and with the first race nearing track officials clarified the tire rules for the full size and 4 Cylinder Enduro events. It was also announced that management has decided to drop the Smash To Pass races from the 2000 schedule.  The Smash to Pass races were fun and exciting but too difficult to score.

With everyone anxious to hit the track after a long winter of inactivity Joe Larsen issued an addendum on March 8th as to the tires that can be or that cannot be raced in either Enduro class. In the addendum Larsen writes that any 7" passenger car tire is okay. However, no RV, light truck, off road, snow tire, recap tire or M&S series tires will be permitted. Tires should be 4-ply passenger tires with a load range of A or B only! Also all four tires must be the same size, 14" and 15" tires cannot be mixed on the same car at one time. Also it was noted that no racing tires can be used, no shaving or grooving of tires is allowed and the sidewall cannot be greased or coated with any other substance.

Larsen was quick to point out that the addendum supercedes any previous tire rule, "I know some competitors might have an old set of rules sitting around and I just want to assure that everyone is on the same page as far as tires are concerned before we drop our first green flag" Larsen commented.

Joe also wanted to alert all Enduro competitors that they can once again race in more than one race in 2000. "We will again allow a driver from the first Enduro to race in a later full size Enduro providing that race has positions still open and that they pay another entry fee". With Enduro race meets only slated an average of once a month a driver who drops out of the first race early due to problems won't have to wait until the next scheduled Enduro date to race.

The pit gate will swing open at 10:00 am on Sunday April 16th for the first Enduro program of 2000, with the Legend Race Cars and Super Pro Trucks to have a quick warm-up at 12 noon. For further information concerning the 2000 racing season at Riverhead Raceway please call the office at 631-842-RACE Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm and on race day the direct hotline number to the track remains 631-727-0010.
