TED CHRISTOPHER
COLLECTS THIRD VICTORY
OF THE SEASON AT
STAFFORD
STAFFORD SPRINGS,
Conn. (July 3, 2005) –
Ted Christopher of
Plainville, Conn. drove
to his third NASCAR
Whelen Modified Tour
victory of the season
with a dramatic late
race charge in the
closing laps of the
Haynes Materials 150 at
Stafford Motor Speedway.
Christopher, after
making a pit stop for
tires during a caution
period on lap 125,
restarted the race in
the 11th
position. He gained five
positions before the
final caution flag flew
on lap 135. The final
restart occurred on lap
140 with Doug Coby of
Milford, Conn. leading
and Christopher sixth.
Christopher passed three
cars in three laps and
moved into third behind
Chuck Hossfeld of
Buffalo, N.Y. Hossfeld
made his bid for the
race victory by diving
under Coby for the lead
on lap 144. Christopher
also slipped by Coby
into second. Two laps
later Christopher passed
Hossfeld in Turn-1 and
led the remaining four
laps.
“I don’t ever give up,”
said Christopher. “It’s
not in my vocabulary.”
Christopher also had to
overcome an early race
spin on lap 27. He made
multiple pit stops under
caution to allow the
Mystique Motorsports
Chevrolet crew an
opportunity to fix the
car. He now leads the
standings unofficially
by 103 points over
Hossfeld.
Hossfeld finished second
in the Haynes Materials
Ford. Coby earned his
best career finish with
a third place in the Red
Line Oil Chevrolet. He
also led the most laps
of the race to earn the
Tommy Baldwin Memorial
Award. Former champion
Jamie Tomaino of Howell,
N.J. finished fourth and
earned the Featherlite
Most Improved Award in
the Perth Amboy Springs
Chevrolet. Rick Fuller
of Auburn, Mass. rounded
out the Top-5 in the
Polar Beverages
Chevrolet.
The next event for the
NASCAR Whelen modified
Tour is at Jennerstown,
Pa. on July 9.
