Tony Hirschman Continues His Bud Pole Award
Domination At Thompson

 

THOMPSON, Conn. (Sept. 10, 2005) - Tony Hirschman of Northampton, Pa. earned his 7th Bud Pole Award of the 2005 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season by setting fast time in qualifying for Sunday’s Thompson Sunoco 300. Hirschman, the defending series champion, was the only driver to break the 19 second barrier. He circled the 5/8 mile speedway in 18.962 seconds for an average speed of 118.658 mph in the Kamco Supply Chevrolet. Hirschman also clinched the season long Bud Pole Award title. 

Zach Sylvester of Lebanon Conn., who finished second in the season opener at Thompson in April, was the second fastest qualifier with a speed of 118.141 mph. Donny Lia of Jericho, N.Y. was third fastest with a speed of 117.912 mph. Mike Stefanik of Coventry, R.I. and John Blewett, III rounded out the Top-5. 

The fastest 10 qualifiers drew for their starting position for Sunday’s prestigious 300 lap event. Carl Pasteryak of Lisbon, Conn. picked the number one starting position and will lead the field to green. He will be joined on the front row by Steve Whitt of Farmingdale, N.J. Hirschman drew the 8th starting position. Current NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour point leader Ted Christopher will start 10th. Christopher leads Hirschman by just 21 points with five races remaining.

Eddie Flemke of Southington, Conn. is the defending race champion.
