2013 Season Preview Series: Christopher Turbush, Jack Handley Jr. and More
LongIslandJam.com’s next installment of its 2013 Season Preview series includes Super Pro Truck and Charger driver Christopher Turbush; Blunderbust drivers Jack Handley Jr. and Gary Caldwell; and Legend car drivers Brendon Bock and Justin Strumpf.
“The Cranberry Kid” Christopher Turbush, who finished third in both the Charger and Super Pro Truck point standings, has decided to focus all his time in the Charger division for the 2013 season at Riverhead Raceway “I will be guiding my nephew, Mark Stewart in the Super Pro Trucks,” said Turbush. “If we can find enough sponsorship, hopefully he will run the full season.” Turbush also plans on racing the truck every now and then. “I will be running the truck out of state for three or four races throughout the year,” said Turbush. “I’ll be racing at Waterford, Thompson, and Stafford in Connecticut.” Turbush’s main sponsor for his Charger car is East West Marine followed by his associate sponsors, which include: Wild Flower Smoke Shop, A & M Electric, Lighthouse Market, Flash Dink, Chris Mohr Landscaping, Bill Lyons Equipment Sales, and Carpet Express. “I will also be running under Angela’s House Charity as a second car to Chad Churilla,” said Turbush. “Churilla’s team will be donating money for every lap completed at Riverhead. If he can’t or is unable to finish a race, I will be completing the laps for the charity.” In the pits, Turbush would like to thank his crew members for all of their hard work and dedication, who include: John Shadecker; Thrill Jackson; his brother, Roger Turbush; his father, “Dynamite” Dan Turbush; Ray Bouchard; Larry ‘The Cook’ Neidish; and his cousin, Buddy ‘Top Notch’ Turbush. “My future plans are just to have fun, win races, and hopefully another championship,” said Turbush.
Jack Handley Jr., driver of the No. 49 Blunderbust, has big plans in store for 2013. Not only does he plan on going for the Blunderbust championship but he also plans on getting behind the wheel of a Late Model. “I will be racing the No. 18 Late Model owned by Chris La Spisa,” said Handley. “I hope to gain a great deal of experience through this opportunity.” Handley would like to thank Chris La Spisa and his entire family for this chance to race in the Late Model division. Handley would also like to thank his father, Jack; his mother, Cyndi; his brother, Max; and his sister, Keri for helping him throughout all of his racing endeavors. “Without the help and support of my family none of this would be possible,” said Handley.
Brendon Bock, driver of the No. 33 Legend car, hopes to jump to the top of the point standings early at both Riverhead Raceway and Mountain Speedway in Pennsylvania. “This year I hope to continue with the momentum that I had at the conclusion of last season,” said Bock. “We had a solid year last season and I can only hope that it follows me into the new season.” Bock’s current sponsor is Pro-System Brakes. His crew for 2013 is Glenn Dixon and Paul Barba. “I will be starting the season out a little early on April 6 and 7 at Waterford and Mountain,” said Bock. “Hopefully doing so will help me in the national point standings.” Bock will also race at Bethel Motor Speedway in upstate New York. “In 2013, I look forward to a great year and to having a lot of fun a various tracks with my friends,” Bock sai. Bock would also like to let his fans know that they can check out his Facebook page at facebook.com/BrendonBockRacing and his YouTube channel at youtube.com/racerbgb1 for updates and videos.
Gary Caldwell isn’t planning on running the full season in the Blunderbust division for 2013. “I’ve been doing this for about 10 years,” said Caldwell. “I’ve raced full-time before, but nowadays it’s just too expensive.” Though Caldwell does have some sponsorship it’s still difficult to race the full season. Caldwell current sponsors include: United Exhaust Shop, Handy Pantry of Sound Beach, and Rocky Point Cycle Works. “I go to the shows that I can afford to make and that’s it,” said Caldwell. “Usually I make the time trial shows. If I qualify and finish in the top five on any given night, I’m a very happy guy.”
Justin Strumpf didn’t race full-time at Riverhead last season, but this year he’s back to racing in the Legend Car division full-time. “I ran in the Legends for three years at Riverhead before we left and ran the modified,” said Strumpf. “So this year we are hoping to win as many races as possible and hopefully win the championship.” Strumpf left Riverhead last year to race his modified at the Waterford. “We ran the modified last year at Waterford and wrecked it,” said Strumpf. “So we didn’t get to race too much last year.” He has sponsorship lined up from Snap-On Tools, Line-X Long Island, and Monster’s Recycling of Lindenhurst. Strumpf’s goal for this season is to finish in the top five every single week.
