10 to Go with Brendon Bock
We spoke with Brendon Bock this week. Bock races the No. 33 Legend at Riverhead Raceway.
When did you start racing?
Brendon Bock: I started racing when I was five-years-old. I raced quarter-midgets. I got into racing really because of my dad, George. He raced Modifieds here, and he wanted me to experience it and I just loved it.
How many types of cars have you raced? What are they? Which is your favorite?
Bock: I’ve raced three different types of cars. Quarter-midgets, Ford Focus Midgets, and the Legend. The Legend is definitely my favorite just because it’s so tricky to handle compared to the other cars and it’s just a ton of fun.
What track do you want to race at most that you haven’t yet?
Bock: I’d say Shangri-La II (N.Y.) because it’s so big.
Do you have any superstitions or routines that you do each week? Lucky charms?
Bock: Just no green. No green or peanuts.
What is your favorite racing moment?
Bock: That’s a hard one. I’d say winning the Grands in Texas in 2010.
What is your most embarrassing racing moment?
Bock: Good question. Earlier in the year at Mountain (Speedway, Pa) I missed a shift and lost the race.
How many injuries have you suffered from racing? Your worst?
Bock: No injuries. I’ve been lucky.
Do you have a nickname? If yes, how did you earn it? If not, why do you think that is?
Bock: My uncles call me Prince. I guess because I race like three times a week.
How does your mother, Suzanne, handle you doing something that is so potentially dangerous?
Bock: She comes out to the track I’d say every other week. She comes to watch. My father raced for so long so she knows all about it. She doesn’t really worry that much.
How do you balance racing with your personal life at 16-years-old?
Bock: It’s mostly racing. You know, I’ve got my friends that I hang around with once in a while, but mostly it’s just racing friends. I’ve got my friends at each track.
