Long Islanders Fare Well at Icebreaker
It was a pretty good day for the contingent of Long Island drivers in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Icebreaker 150. Justin Bonsignore captured the win, the fourth of his career, and Timmy Solomito and Eric Goodale both scored top-five finishes.
Bonsignore, a Holtsville native, and the 2011 NASCAR Modified track champion at Riverhead Raceway, started from the front row outside of pole-sitter Woody Pitkat. He led three times on the day and took the lead for the final time with just eight laps remaining.
He beat Pitkat to the checkered flag by just over half a second.
Meanwhile Timmy Solomito in just his fifth ever Tour start scored his first top five finish at Thompson with a fourth place finish.
After the race Solomito was about as happy as one could be for finishing fourth.
“I’m ecstatic,” said Solomito. “My goal for this year was to finish top five at Thompson or Stafford. To accomplish that right now, we might have to set another goal here and go for that.”
